What is JROTC?

  • JROTC is an elective class that is offered for up to four years. The course provides academic credit just like any other elective course in high school.  The curriculum emphasis is on citizenship, leadership, teamwork and personal responsibility. Students are required to wear uniforms once a week. These uniforms are provided to the students free of charge so long as they are returned at the end of the year or whenever they leave the program.

 

If I take JROTC, do I have to join the military?

  • No, JROTC is a student-led program which you are not obligated to speak to a recruiter nor are you obligated to join any branch of the military. However, some students do decide that they will enter the military upon graduation and their JROTC experience is an advantage.

 

Why would JROTC be a good choice?

  • There are several great reasons why JROTC is a great program for students, parents and the community.  These are a few:

  • It has many extracurricular activities

  • It is a fantastic peer group

  • It had a dedicated Cadre (Instructors)

 

Do cadets have to wear the uniform?

  • Yes, only once a week, or when taking part in special ceremonies. The rest of the time casual wear is fine.

 

Are there any fees for uniforms, or special equipment?

  • The JROTC program supplies uniforms, and all other equipment used in the course, free of charge. There is a fee if the uniform is damaged, lost, or stolen.

 

Are there any age requirements to be in JROTC?

  • There's no firm age requirement, but students must be in at least the 9th grade to take JROTC.

  • Hair MUST be off ears and collar. NO ponytails.

  • Scrunches MUST be color of hair.

  • ONLY one ring per hand can be worn.

  • Watches are allowed to be worn in uniform.

  • Black socks or nylons (nude, beige, tan, taupe) must be worn.

  • ONLY one set of stud earrings can be worn that coincide to each other.

  • NO flashy or an excessive amount of make-up should be worn.

  • ONLY clear, skin tone, or natural color nail polish is acceptable.

  • NO nail polish should be worn in uniform unless it is nude or french tip.

  • Clean-cut hair cuts, off ears and collar.

  • A clean shaved face; mustaches SHOULD NOT be any wider than the width of the mouth.

  • NO side burns.

  • NO earrings worn with uniform.

  • ONLY black socks should be worn with the uniform.

  • Allowed ONLY one ring per hand.

  • NO braclets should be worn in uniform.

  • Watches are allowed to be worn in uniform.
